Date: Wed, 29 Oct 2008 From: "Judy" To: "Marian Eide" Subject: Stained glass project Hi Marian! At long last, we have finally gotten our new stained glass window hung in the entryway. We love it! It is the perfect finishing touch for this part of the house and provides privacy without blocking light. Having digested all of your advice about how to hang the piece, we ultimately ended up framing it, creating two small slotted pedestals for it to rest on, and then hanging it from the ceiling. Because we aren’t supporting the full weight of the piece we opted for regular decorative chain rather than the figure ’8’ links as you suggested. We drilled a few tiny holes through the wooden and the zinc frame and inserted brads just to make sure that we wouldn't have sagging. The result is rock solid and looks fabulous. Thanks for all of your advice on colors design, etc. This is exactly what I was looking for when I set out on this project but I never dreamed that I'd come this close! The fact that we could accomplish this over the phone without a face to face meeting and accompanying arm–waving is a minor miracle. And a tribute to your website and communication skills. Bonnie translated it all perfectly into glass, zinc, and lead. I really do appreciate the photos that she took. This weekend we are having an open house for friends and neighbors. Can't wait to show off our remodeling and have folks ooh and ahh over the new stained glass! I hope all is well in Texas. Many thanks! Judy F |
